Start seeds as easy as 1-2-3. Jiffy Quick Soil Mix (QSM) makes planting fun and easy without the mess and hassle of loose soil. The discs will save space on your shelves, yet swell to planting mix after adding water to fill seed trays or pots.

I am using these pellets for starting vegetable seeds indoors. I am not a fan of the usual jiffy pellets (with the mesh around them??), but I thought this was a smart idea. I have an 18-month-old, so having a huge bag of soil around seemed unwise. This bag, for the amount of soil it produces, is small and lightweight. The pellets are VERY dense, and take a looong time to absorb the water. WARM water worked best. The instructions say 1/2 cup water per pellet, but that's way too much. I mixed up ten pellets in 5 cups of water, and this resulted in a big bowl of dirt soup. I added 2 more pellets, and they didn't break up very well, and it was still very watery and gloppy. I ended up having to wring out the mix in my hands until it felt just damp, and transfer it to a new container. The whole ordeal took a long time and was frustrating, but the end result was a nice soil mix and some quick sprouting!

I was expecting it to probably be some stupid gimmick that didn't work well and was more trouble than it was worth. I was surprised that they are actually easy and less messy, the package was also really lightweight and fairly small which was nice. I actually had a lot of fun watching the tiny pellets puff up, the only problem I had was that I found that the pellets didn't need quite as much water as it said to use in the intructions.

These pellets are a great soil alternative. They don't contain netting so you can just put them in a pot and add water. It's a lot easier than messing with bags of soil.
